Satilla Ekadashi – A Day To Learn To Help Others
In Hindu and Jain tradition, the day of Ekadashi is considered a blessing.
It occurs on the eleventh day of the month's two lunar phases, Krishna and Shukla Paksha.
Ekadashi represents 11 senses: five sense organs, five action organs, and one mind intellectually.
To commemorate the day, devotees fast by regulating their eleven feelings and ingesting only
approved meals while abstaining from the others.
There are 24 different forms of Ekadashi in a year, each associated with a different incarnation
of Lord Vishnu. During fast, each one is accompanied by precise eating regulations that should be
fulfilled to put the mental effort in the appropriate path and avoid negative behaviours.
The main goal of Shatila Ekadashi is to educate individuals about the importance of providing food
to the underprivileged. As a result, the most significant activity on the day is poor feeding after
the Lord Vishnu puja.
What is Satilla Ekadashi?
Satilla or Tilda Ekadashi gets its name from the sesame seed term 'Til'.
This Ekadashi entails giving and taking sesame seeds as presents and preparing dishes with them.
Fasting people could donate sesame seeds, cereals, and other meals to improve their luck.
The significance of 'anna daana', or food gift, in Hindu tradition is highlighted by the
story of this day. Worshippers must avoid eating pulses, grains, or beans in their meal and instead
give fruits such as coconut, guava, and pumpkins to the deity.
Sat‑Tila is the name of the Ekadashi, which is thought to help redeem sins by contributing
Til (sesame) seeds on this day. Bathing in water mingled with til and offering oblations
to deceased ancestors with water mixed with sesame seeds are also regarded as highly fortunate.
Til is also thought to be helpful in six other ways throughout the day. As a result, the Ekadashi
was given Shatila, which means "six different types of til."
