The word Choghadiya is made from the combination of two words ‘cho’ and ‘ghadiya’. ‘Cho’ means four and ‘ghadiya’ means clocks. It is a period of time whose duration is equal to 96 minutes. Actually, in Hindu mythology, the time between sunrise and sunset (which is almost half of the complete day) is divided into 30 Ghati. Each of which is 24 minutes long in duration. Choghadiya is the time duration corresponding to four Gahti. Sometimes in astrology, Choghadiya muhurth is also referred to as Chaturshtika Muhurth. Now this time period can be related to auspiciousness or inauspiciousness both depending upon the planetary motions and position of the moon, stars, and planets.The Choghadiya was used to calculate the auspicious moments for travel but later on, it is being used for determining the auspicious time for any important work.

Know About Choghadiya Table
First one is that which occurs after sunrise and before sunset which is called day Choghadiya. And the second one is which occurs after sunset and before sunrise which is also called night Choghadiya. Each of these two is a set of seven Choghadiyas. Out of these seven, four are considered auspicious and three are inauspicious. These seven Choghadiyas are explained below :
Udveg Choghadiya
In Vedic astrology, the sun is considered as an inauspicious star and hence everything, where it is related, is considered as inauspicious. Udveg Choghadiya is the time which is influenced by the sun and hence it is regarded inauspicious. It is related to anxiety and it is believed that anxiety will ruin your work if you start during this time. However, it can be used for some government related works if needed.
Char Choghadiya
The ruling planet in this Choghadiya is Venus and it is considered as an auspicious Choghadiya. In Vedic astrology, Venus is said to be a moving planet and hence this Choghadiya is best suited for traveling purposes.
Amrit Choghadiya
The ruling planet of this Choghadiya is the moon and it is the best of all the Choghadiya. It can be used for any task and is highly auspicious. If you have to start any task, then it is the best time for you.
Shubh Choghadiya
Jupiter is the ruling planet of Shubh Choghadiya. It is also auspicious and is considered the second best after Amrit. Most of the devotional works should be performed during this period. If you have to perform Puja or Marriage or something devotional then this is considered the best time duration for them.
Labh Choghadiya
The ruling planet for Labh Choghadiya is Mercury and it is also auspicious. It is said that if you want to learn some new skill or want to do some educationally related activity then try to perform them during this duration. Business-related works can also be scheduled during this time.
Kaal Choghadiya
It is one of the inauspicious Choghadiya and Saturn is the ruling planet here. So, this time should be avoided for any auspicious activity. However, some wealth related activities can be performed during this period.
Rog Choghadiya
The ruling planet of Rog Choghadiya is Mars and hence it is also considered an inauspicious Choghadiya. It is probably the most inauspicious part of the day and you should highly avoid any auspicious task during this time. This time is said to be related to fights and wars.
